This past April, Nienke Klaver and Ed Staples returned to Japan, a country they called home for ten years. The main focus of their trip was to explore the amazing pottery culture that has endured for centuries throughout the country, with the goal of visiting the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan. Along the way they visited Kyoto, Japan’s cultural capital; Kurokawa, the most picturesque onsen (hot spring) town in the country; Itsukushima, the 16th century Shinto shrine with its iconic orange gate that “floats” at high tide; and Himeji, the site of Japan’s best preserved castle. Their slideshow presentation will highlight their month-long travels.
